Author: T2K

Alex and Mel are very good friends who met in high school and who have been strengthening their friendship ever since; through a mutual love of British comedies, costume dramas, great books and all things food. This blog is their first project together and seemed a natural extension of their mutual food and baking obsession hobby. It is also a way to maintain a friendship based largely on food discussions over 20 years of friendship. They hope, one day, to grow this blog into a domination of the food scene in Australia. In the meantime, while sharing all they learn with readers who stop by, domination of their kitchens will do.

Grandma’s Raspberry Slice

Having lived in Brisbane for a good 6 months now, I was, naturally, missing Melbourne a little. Luckily I had two of the best cures to hand last weekend; a visit from a good friend (Mel) and the recipe for a favourite childhood treat. My Grandmother’s raspberry slice is delicious, easy to make and keeps well. […]

Cheese and Olive Scone Bake

As I mentioned in my previous post I  recently started a new job. After going to Brisbane for work, I ended up staying the weekend with Alex. It was only natural we spent part of it in the kitchen. After making Alex’s grandmothers delicious raspberry slice, we decided what we needed was cheese and olive […]

Hummingbird Bakery Frosted Brownie

It’s Mel here. As you may have noticed, I haven’t posted much in the past ten days. This inaction is a result of a new job and travel to Sydney and Brisbane. I was fortunate to be able to spend the weekend in Brisbane with Alex and you’ll see the result of the weekend here. Unfortunately however […]

Raspberry (or Strawberry) Bakewell Slice

Mel came up to visit me in July and, being a lovely sunny day when I had strawberries in my fridge, naturally we stayed inside to bake. Bakewell Slice from Nigella’s Kitchen caught my eye and, though the recipe calls for raspberries, I prefer to use what I have to hand so strawberries it was.

Stephanie Alexander’s Middle Eastern Meatballs

With a pack of mince meat in the fridge and a new cookbook in hand, I decided to try out this recipe from Stephanie Alexander’s The Cook’s Companion. We had all the ingredients to hand, excepting the coriander, but a tube of coriander paste in my fridge was a good substitute. For dinner, this was […]

Vegan Apple Crumb Muffins

I’ve recently started a new job. We have a weekly team meeting at 11am and I though it would be nice at my second team meeting to bring something in for morning tea. Now can we please establish this as a judgement free zone? In a swot vac, working 14 days in a row while completing assignments […]

Tiramisu in the morning

Whenever I need to feed the masses I make this for dessert. It’s quick and easy to put together, best made the day before and always received with pleasure. This particular version was made early in the morning for a dinner to come that night. Really it’s best made the night before but even if […]

Nigella-Inspired Spanish Chicken

I’ve called this post “Nigella-Inspired Spanish Chicken” rather than “Spanish chicken with chorizo and potatoes” because that’s literally what happened. I opened Kitchen, looked at the recipe and decided that there wasn’t nearly enough spice or Spanish flavours in the dish to call it spanish chicken. So, as always, I used what I had and […]

Apple and Pear Crumble

I made this delicious apple crumble for dessert on fathers day. I was motivated by the new pie dish I had received as a Fly Buys reward. For those unfamiliar with fly buys it’s a customer rewards programs that Coles uses as market research and every so often you gain enough points for something nice. I selected this lovely 19cm […]

Happy Fathers Day (Praised Chicken and Roasted Rostini)

Last Sunday (September 4th) was fathers day in Australia. To honour the occasion I wanted to make lunch for dad. Having just purchased a small chicken two days prior I decided to make Nigella Lawson’s Praised Chicken from Kitchen. The recipe was simple and while it has a cooking time of close to two hours, the wait was […]
